Accountants in Movies, Film, and DVD

What part of our pop culture is better than movies to tell us something about a career in Accounting?  While most films portray Accountant stereotypes, each of them do it in different ways and some are more accurate than others.

Hitch, 2005

Kevin James plays Accountant in this movie, Albert Brennaman.  From watching the movie, he is managing the assets of a wealthy heiress and helping choose investments.

Deception, 2008

Ewan McGregor plays an Accountant in this movie, Jonathan McQuarry.  He is an auditor for and accounting firm and inadvertently gets caught up in wild after-hours escapades.

The Shawshank Redemption, 1994

Tim Robbins plays  banker Andy Dufrense, who turns into the jail’s unofficial accountant in this movie, and in this role plays a pivotal part in unwinding the corruption taking place within the jail.

The Producers, 2005

Matthew  Broderick is Leo Bloom, accountant in this movie that works for an auditing firm and is persuaded into committing fraud for profit.

While there are certainly other movies that have accountants that play roles in, these are the top films that star them and touch on some of the work they do.  Of course, none of these depict completely accurately the life of an accountant as this is Hollywood!  However, it is a good place to see where it all begins.  Make sure to check out more fun articles about Accounting!
