Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger was born on July 30, 1947 in a hamlet 10km from Graz in Austria. He is the second born son of Aurelia Jadrny Schwarzenegger and Gustav Schwarzenegger. His father was a policeman. He started bodybuilding in 1962 as a way to make it in life. He joined the Austrian military in 1965, based on the mandatory one year service. He however did not stop on his bodybuilding; he continued it even in the army. In 1966, he competed in the Mr. Europe title, in which he won. He first won the Mr. Universe in 1967 and retained the title five times. Schwarzenegger did not return to Graz again and left for the United States in 1968.

On arriving in America, he still won more bodybuilding contests. He won Mr. World and Mr. Olympia in 1970.He again retained Mr. Olympia for the next five years. Schwarzenegger graduated with a B.A in Business from the University of Wisconsin in 1979.

His acting career was also taking shape at this point with small parts in movies. In fact, he was awarded with the Golden Globe Award for Best Newcomer in his role on ‘Stay Hungry’ in 1976. Schwarzenegger however did very well in action all thanks to his great strength and physique. ‘Conan the Barbarian’ came in 1982 and it was as if he was made for it. Conan was followed by ‘Terminator’ with two sequels that propelled Schwarzenegger into superstardom.

The Terminator and Conan the Barbarian are the two movies most people associate with Schwarzenegger. He has however acted in several other movies, including ‘Twins’ in 1988,’Kindergarten Cop’ in 1990 ‘True Lies’ and ‘Junior’ in 1994, and ’Batman and Robin’ in 1997.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was named as chairman of President George Bush’s Council on Fitness in 1990.While on the taping of Jay Leno’s ‘Tonight Show’ in 2003; Schwarzenegger announced his intention to run for Governor of California on a Republican ticket. The incumbent governor at the time, Gray Davis, faced a recall election and Schwarzenegger challenged him and won.

Schwarzenegger was married to Maria Shriver on August 26, 1986,they however separated in May 2011.The couple have four children, two boys and two girls.

Arnold Schwarzenegger experienced a problem with the Internal Revenue Service when they filed a federal tax lien of $ 79,000 against him. The lien was filed in May 2009 at the Los Angeles County recorder’s office.

This issue was first raised on the internet when a website posted a copy of the lien from the recorder’s office. The federal tax liens were issued for two instances of unpaid tax. One was for $ 39,047 in 2004 and another for $ 40,016 in 2005. Schwarzenegger’s office disputed these liens and blamed it all on ‘minor paperwork tracking discrepancy’

The Internal Revenue Service investigated this matter and it found that Schwarzenegger had actually paid his taxes and was not owed anything. The problem arose from mix up between his Social Security Number, which relates to his personal tax and Employer Identification Number, which relates to his payroll taxes. He however had to pay $20.50 as administrative fees.
