Jeremy Allen Mayfield was born May 27 1969.His interest in racing started at the age of four, at his grandmother’s backyard where he raced his motorcycle. He first started his racing career at the age of ten in Owensboro focusing on BMX bicycles. He traded in racing with bikes and moved on to go-karts all within his hometown. When he was 19 years old, Jeremy moved to the Nashville Speedway. His car had to be impounded as a result of numerous victories. This is a common rule in the racing division. After this he joined Sadler Bros. Racing where he worked as a fabricator. He was eventually made a driver and went on to win Late Model Rookie of the Year in 1987 at the Kentucky Motor Speedway.

Jeremy later joined the ARCA series in 1993 where he was declared Rookie of the Year. He threw his hat in the ring for NASCAR’s Winston Cup Series Rookie of the Year in 1994. The car he used at this point was still Sadler Bros. It was a Number 95 Ford. He was not impressive and struggled a lot, which caused him to be released in 1995. However his best was yet to come the same year, when he was among the top 10 and 31 place in point finish. This was not the end for him; his first clear win came in Pocono in 1998.
He made a career decision in 2007 to switch to Bill Davis where he primarily raced in Toyotas. He formed his own team in 2009, where he managed to qualify for most of the races he tried out for. For a man whose career seemed to be on the rise, it was almost unimaginable when he was suspended in May 2009.Jeremy failed a random drug test and was suspended indefinitely from racing.

His problems only started mounting at this point. Authorities found stolen property worth $100, 000, methamphetamine and forty firearms in Jeremy’s yet to be completed home. He was slapped with theft charges because of this. He was released on a $3,000 bond.

Besides this, Jeremy Mayfield also has a tax lien against him. The County of Catawba’s tax officials claim that Mayfield owes a total of $82,000 in back taxes. This is all in relation to taxes due from his four properties. In fact the IRS says that they are almost foreclosing the homes to recover the taxes.
It seems the beginning of Jeremy Mayfield’s problems started right his suspension from NASCAR. In January 2009, he and his wife Shana formed their own racing team called Mayfield Motorsports Inc (MMI).Everything seemed to have been going smoothly until his suspension in May. Most of his sponsors pulled out and his team was not performing as well without him.

Several lawsuits appeared, including liens against his properties and also allegations of back taxes. The Mayfield’s are currently embroiled in lawsuits trying to clear their name for tax default.
