Rob Lowe was born, Robert Hepler Lowe on March 17, 1964 in Charlottesville, Virginia. When he was a child his family moved to Dayton, Ohio. Lowe got himself into modeling at a very young age. He wanted to act when he saw a production of Oliver; he says that when he saw the children on stage he wanted to be up there with them. To him acting represented something out of his own world. He started acting during his teenage years.
It seems his good looks had a huge role to play in the number of roles he got to play. By the time he was 12 he had appeared in over 30 stage productions. His mother, who had divorced his father, got married again and divorced her second husband. She got married for the third time to a Californian native. The family moved to Los Angeles as a result.
While in California Rob Lowe went to school with Charlie Sheen, Sean Penn, Emilio Estevez and Judd Nelson. The schoolmates formed the ‘Brat Pack’ in the 1980s,a group of powerful, young and reckless actresses and actors. He still auditioned for parts and got roles in ‘A Matter of Time’, he also appeared in ‘A New Kind of Family’ in 1979.He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his part in ‘Thursday’s Child’.
His career soared in the 1980s.In fact he was one of the teenage heartthrobs at the time. Lowe appeared in a movie that would define his acting career in 1985 on ‘St.Elmo’s Fire’. He got the role of Billy Hicks, a college jock for a group of graduates who just cleared college and are trying to adjust to life.
Lowe got a second Golden Globe nomination for his role in ‘Square Dance’ where he played a handicapped man. He was also chosen for two films in 1988,’Masquarade’ and ‘Illegally Yours’. His acting was however overshadowed when news about a sex tape emerged. The video involved two girls, one of whom was a minor. Lowe claimed he did not know that one of the girls was a minor. He did 20 hours of community service in Dayton for this.
Lowe’s acting career took a big hit from the video scandal; in fact it took him some time to get back the stardom he enjoyed. But it now appears that Rob Lowe and his wife Sheryl Berkoff have a problem with the Internal Revenue Service. The couple has been slapped with a $269,965 tax lien. The moment this news was released, Rob Lowe’s publicist said that his client was not even aware of the issue.
As it is ignorance is not a defense in law. You cannot commit a crime and say that you did not know it was a crime. The case of Lowe’s taxes is still open. Most of the time when the IRS issues a lien against someone, they have all their facts right. It is amazing the number of reasons celebrities use to explain themselves when caught.
