Snoop Dogg’s real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus; he was born on October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California. He got his nick name from his mother who joked that her son resembled Snoopy, the character from Peanuts. He is known widely for his achievements in his music career. Most musicians have tried their hand at acting, and so has Snoop Dogg. He has mainly been featured in drama and comedy. This is probably because of his kind of music and persona.
Snoop has led a colorful life, after graduating high school he spent some time in correctional facilities. He was charged with possession of drugs a number of times. Music came later as a way for him to escape his troubled youth. Snoop was introduced to Dr. Dre by his friend Warren G; this is what catapulted his music career. He released his first album ‘Doggstyle’ in 1993 and it was a huge success as it climbed onto the spot on Billboard’s 200 and hip hop charts.
After this, he released another album, ‘The Doggfather’ in 1996 which also topped the charts. In 1998 he released ‘Da Game Is To Be Sold’ and ‘No Limit Top Dogg’ in 1999; these two albums also reached the top of hip hop charts. Snoop Dogg’s style of rapping was laid back and his name began to be associated with gangster rap in the 90s.
Snoop is still making music to date. In 2004 one of his singles ‘Drop It Like Its Hot’ was a huge success by reaching the top of pop and hip hop charts. Snoop has been seen in several movies including Starsky and Hutch. He was also part of a reality show ‘Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood’ that aired on E! in 2007.The show features his wife and three children.
Snoop has however had a few problems with the IRS. In 2009 the State of California attached a tax lien to his property on back taxes. Another lien was also filed against him in 2010.His back taxes at the time were totaling $600,000.However,on September 2011,Snoop Dogg paid a tax bill of $ 500,000 against a tax lien that the IRS put on him in December 2008.
A tax lien is placed against property when the owner delays paying their real property taxes. As such, the local authority will issue a lien to sell that property if one cannot pay their taxes. If you purchase property from a tax lien you will be entitled to one of two things. The title of the property should the tax defaulter fail to pay up or a state mandated yield arising from the lien, the defaulter should pay this yield before the property is released to him. Once a defaulter will have their tax payer credit history clean once they pay the lien.
Snoop Dogg is no stranger to brushes with the law. He was once tried for murder but was later released. He was banned from Australia because he was found with marijuana at the airport.
