Val Edward Kilmer was born in December 31, 1959 in Los Angeles, California. He is an American actor. He studied acting at the Hollywood Professional School, and as a teenager he entered Julliard’s drama program. He was the youngest student to have been accepted at Julliard. He however started his acting career as a stage actor. His popularity had not been noticed in the 80s when he was featured in several comedy flicks. He however had the most notable appearance in ‘Top Secret’ in 1984; this was actually his first film debut. Throughout the 80s he was in a number of movies including ‘Top Gun’ in 1986.Val Kilmer had an obvious talent and range but people did not take too much notice of him until he appeared on Oliver Stone’s ‘The Doors’ in 1991 where he played the role of Jim Morrison. Val Kilmer got to introduce the world to another side of him in singing. He used his baritone voice to sing all the concert pieces.
It was after this that he got to play two American legends. He first appeared as Elvis Presley in ‘True Romance’ in 1993 and as Doc Holliday in ‘Tombstone’ also in the same year. He was chosen in 1994 to play the role of Batman in ‘Batman Forever’. It was during the shoot of ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’ that Kilmer enraged the director John Frankenheimer. This caused the director to vow never to work with Kilmer again. Many directors also complained that he was someone hard to work with. Maybe this is due to the fact that Kilmer is a stickler for details, always to the chagrin of his fellow cast members.
Off the screen Val Kilmer was married to Joanna Whalley for eight years. The couple met while on the shoot of ‘Willow’. They have two children.
It is not unusual to find celebrities on Internal Revenue Service list for tax default. It puzzles most people however, since celebrities have hired people to do these things for them and not that money is an issue. Val Kilmer joined the list of celebrities on the IRS list by having two tax violations. In 2008, the Internal Revenue Service filed a tax lien against him for $498,165 in unpaid taxes from 2008.The lien was against his New Mexico ranch; it was at the point on the market.
It seems this was not the last time Val Kilmer would have a problem with the Internal Revenue Service, in July 2009 another tax lien was filed against him for $538,858.Also in September 2004 the New Mexico Court of Appeal had ruled against Val Kilmer and his ex wife Joanna Whalley from seeking tax refund of $300,000.
In January 2011, the IRS forced Val Kilmer to put his New Mexico ranch back on the market. He had taken it out of the market because he could not get what he was asking for. He was initially asking for $33million but sold it for $18.5million because of the IRS lien. He has since paid all his back taxes and is debt free.
